You walk up the hill with your cup of coffee and settle into your perfect study spot. You are about to open the Western Heritage Reader, but before you begin, you search for the perfect study music to settle your mind and help you focus. You search, and search, and search some more. But you just can’t find the music you’re looking for.

The Weight of Education

Now, you might expect an easy roll-out here of our motto: “Strength rejoices in the challenge,” but instead, I have a question. What’s the biggest thing you’ve ever physically lifted?

Located underneath the Knorr Student Center, Academic Services offers specialized tutoring in each department to help you flesh out your ideas, a series of lectures for freshmen on how to thrive at college, and a Writing Center staffed with upperclassmen who are willing to read any paper—no matter how much work it needs.

There was a lot to do—papers to write and math projects to finish, on top of the normal set of reading and other daily assignments—but this was only part of my problem. It might sound pathetic, but the real problem was that I had no place to study.

Your book is on the table, unopened (kudos to you for even putting it on the table with full intention to read), your laptop’s screensaver has been going for the past 20  minutes, and you’ve already dived deep into the seven levels of social media (let’s be honest: you’re stalking the profile of the cute librarian who helped you find the book you still haven’t opened yet).
